Car interior light bulb replacement: dome, map, trunk, and more
Interior bulbs are one of the easiest “small upgrades” – brighter cabin, cleaner look, and you can usually do it in minutes.
Common interior bulb locations
- Dome light (main overhead)
- Map lights (front reading lights)
- Vanity mirror lights
- Trunk / cargo light
- Glovebox light
How to replace safely
- Turn the light off and give it a minute to cool.
- Use a plastic trim tool (or a wrapped flat tool) to gently pop the lens.
- Remove the old bulb (some are wedge-style, some are festoon tubes).
- Install the new bulb and test before snapping the lens back on.
LED upgrade tips
- Polarity matters: some LED interior bulbs only work one way – flip it if it doesn’t light.
- Color match: choose “warm white” for OEM feel or “cool white” for a modern look.
- Don’t go overboard: super-bright LEDs can be harsh at night.
If you tell me your vehicle and which interior light you’re replacing, I can help identify the bulb style.
