what bulb fits my car

What bulb fits my car?

Been there: one light goes out, you open five tabs, and somehow every answer is “it depends.” Good news – it does depend, but only on a few simple details. Once you know them, finding the right bulb is fast (and you won’t waste money buying the wrong one).

Step 1: Identify which light you’re replacing

  • Headlight low beam (your normal night driving light)
  • Headlight high beam (brights)
  • Fog light
  • Turn signal / parking light
  • Brake / tail light
  • Interior / dome / map light

The same car can use totally different bulb types depending on position, so “my car uses an H11” might be true for low beams but not for fogs or high beams.

Step 2: Use your exact vehicle info

Use the full combo: year + make + model + trim. Trims matter because different headlight housings exist (halogen vs HID vs LED, projector vs reflector, etc.).

Step 3: Confirm by looking at the bulb (optional but reliable)

If you can safely access it, the easiest confirmation is reading the marking on the bulb base. It’s usually printed/etched (for example: “H11”, “9005/HB3”, “D2S”, etc.).

Common “gotchas” that cause wrong purchases

  • Left/right differences: rare, but some cars do it.
  • Low beam vs DRL: on some cars the daytime running light is a different bulb.
  • Aftermarket housings: if a previous owner swapped headlights, your original spec might not match what’s installed.

Quick checklist before you buy

  • Match the bulb type and base (not just the “looks”).
  • If upgrading to LED, make sure it’s compatible with the housing (beam pattern matters).
  • Replace in pairs for headlights when possible (brightness/color stays even).

If you share your year/make/model and the light position, I can help you narrow it down quickly.
